The residents of the Hazara-dominated community in central Afghanistan have alleged that they have been ordered to leave their lands by Taliban forces at the behest of Pashtun landlords who want to seize their crops and stores.

The order has come as the country’s new Defence Minister issued a rebuke over misconduct by some commanders and fighters, warning such actions will not be tolerated, TRT World reported.

Mohammad Mohaqeq, a Hazara politician, raised the alarm earlier this week in a letter published on social media.

Mohaqeq left Afghanistan soon after the Taliban took over and formed the government.

The report quoting Mohaqeq said that more than 800 families had been ordered out of their homes in a remote district straddling the provinces of Daykundi and Uruzgan, southwest of Kabul.

Quoting local residents, an international news agency AFP reported that they pleaded with the authorities to help them. Hazaras are mostly a Shia ethnic minority.

However, the Taliban is yet to react on the issue, neither has it issued any statement over the claim.

The news agency quoting a local resident said that the Taliban forces in pick-up trucks descended on Gizab district and ordered people to leave their places as, according to them, they are living there illegally.

“Residents are struggling to find anyone to help them,” the news agency reported quoting the local resident. “Telecommunications are also not working in the village,” he said.
