Six detained in Jammu for allegedly raising pro-Pakistan slogans after cricket match

In Samba, six people have been detained by police after a video purportedly showing slogans being raised by a group of people, following a T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan, went viral on social media, the officials said on Tuesday.

SSP Samba Rajesh Sharma said the detained people are being questioned regarding the incident. He added that more people may be called for questioning.

In a statement, Ravinder Raina, BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party) President said that the students who are involved, against them strict actions will be taken and they will be put behind bars and called them as “shadyantra kari”.

However, the video had triggered widespread protests by various social organisations in the Samba district.

Meanwhile, a police officer said an FIR has been registered.

On Monday, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered two separate cases against those who celebrated the Pakistan cricket team’s win against India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Match, being played in Dubai on Sunday.

The police have taken notice of two incidents particularly – one at the hostel of the SKIMS Medical college in Bemina and another at the hostel of the Government Medical College (GMC) in Karan Nagar – both in the Srinagar district of central Kashmir.

The FIR has been lodged in two police stations, one at Soura and another at Karan Nagar.
