Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association on Tuesday condemned the arrest of prominent Human Rights activist Khurram Parvez who was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India on Monday.

“It amounts to suppress the voice of the voiceless in Kashmir,” the Bar association said in a statement.

The statement added: “He is implicated in false and frivolous allegations to prevent him from pursuing the cause of justice and reporting human rights violations from Kashmir.”

The association also appealed to the United Nations Human Rights Commission and Amnesty International, and the National Human Rights Commission of India to intervene with urgency to the release of Parvez.

Parvez was arrested on Monday following searches at his residence and office by the sleuths of India’s probing agency in connection with a case already registered at NIA.

Officials earlier confirmed that the residence of Khurram at Sonwar was searched for many hours and the office at Amira Kadal was also searched.

The agency officials were assisted by the local police and paramilitary personnel.

They said Parvez was questioned at NIA office at Church Lane in Srinagar under the police jurisdiction of Rammunshi Bagh and later was formally arrested by the probing agency.

Earlier, family sources informed that they received the arrest memo under case number 30/2021 in his name in the evening adding that a phone, laptop, and some booked were seized by the NIA.
