Srinagar: A Kashmiri journalist has been awarded Anupum Mishra Memorial Medal 2021 for his environment-based stories.

In 2016, the Indian Rivers Forum, an amalgamation of various NGOs and trusts in Delhi working on environmentally sensitive issues, had initiated Anupam Mishra Memorial Medal in memory of Anupum Mishra, a renowned conservationist, to celebrate media professionals who have established an exceptional body of credible work on various aspects of rivers leading to changes in behavior, public discourse, law, and policy.

This year two journalists have been selected for this award and one among the two is Athar Parvaiz from Kashmir.

Parvaiz writes for various Delhi-based and international media organizations.

“I have tried to highlight various issues related to rivers in Jammu and Kashmir. I did investigative stories and analytical pieces due to which I earned this award,” Parvaiz told Free Press Kashmir over the phone.

“It feels immense pleasure to represent my homeland, Kashmir on this level,” Parvaiz said, adding, “It always feels good when your work gets appreciated at this level”.

It gives you the motivation to work with more enthusiasm and hard work,” he added.

Earlier, the journalist was awarded Development Asia Journalism Award in 2011 and Ozone Green Award in 2009.
