JK Admin announces winter vacation for schools

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday announced winter vacations for educational institutions of the Kashmir division and winter zone of the Jammu division.

“In view of the increase in cold weather conditions, there was a proposal for early vacations in schools. A meeting in this regard was held yesterday and the proposal has been approved,” Principal Secretary School Education Department, Bishwajit Kumar Singh told Global News Service. He said a formal order in this regard will be issued on Wednesday.

As per the proposal, winter vacation for up to 8th standard would be observed with effect from December 6, to February 28, while for 9th standard onwards the vacation would be observed with effect from December 13, to February end.

He said that both government and private schools shall complete their ongoing online exams before closing the institutions for the ensuing vacation.

However, he said school shall not be allowed to continue with the classwork during the winter vacation.
