Militant killed in military operation in Srinagar identified, says police

Srinagar: A top militant commander Saifulla Alais Abu Khalid of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was killed in a military operation in Dhara Harwan area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district in the wee hours on Sunday.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that the slain LeT commander was killed today.

A resident of Karachi Pakistan, Khalid was active since 2016 and was active in Harwan- Dhara belt, the IGP said.

Earlier, a joint team of Police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Harwan following information about the presence of militants in the area.

As the joint team of armed forces intensified searches, the hiding militant fired upon them leading to the operation.
