‘Will take my own life if police doesn’t stop harassing me’, Kashmiri youth in viral video
He should come forward and provide his version, says police
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday issued a statement after a video went viral in which a youth alleged that he is being harassed by the police.
In a 2:20 minute video, viral on social media sites now, a youth alleges harassment by the Jammu and Kashmir police. He alleges cops of calling him on police stations time and again for ‘no reason’. The youth also mentions having ‘no links’ with any organization and that he is a common Kashmiri and wants to live a peaceful life.
However, police in a statement issued today, said,”If the youth is being harassed, he is most welcome to come forward and provide his version. Instead, he has gone incognito and is giving out videos on social media. He can approach any authority he trusts”.
“He was summoned to the police station for routine questioning as he is involved in multiple FIRs. He asked for a few minutes to add layers of warm clothing in front of his family and he jumped out and ran through a window. There are thousands of youth who approach us whenever they feel harassed by anyone and everyone reposes high faith and trust in Baramulla Police,” the police statement said.
Publishing videos while on the run is trying to be over smart. If it is harassment, we invite him to make a formal complaint before any higher authority or wherever he feels. There is no need to run, reads the statement.
