Srinagar: Armed forces in Jammu and Kashmir have been put in place across the Union Territory ahead of the 26 January event.

Lieutenant Governor JK Manoj Sinha will take the salute at the Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu, the main venue of the event on January 26 in JK.

While in Srinagar, Advisor to Lt Governor R R Bhatnagar will preside over the event and is scheduled to take salute at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium.

A tight deployment of armed forces is being witnessed across JK and patrolling is going round the clock. In Jammu city and in its peripheral areas, electronic gadgets are being used by the armed forces to monitor the movement of people.

“The aerial services like quadcopters and drones have been used for aerial surveillance and all vulnerable pockets are under tight vigil,” a senior police official told news agency CNS.

He said that round-the-clock foot patrolling is being conducted in areas along borders, and additional check posts have also been set up on the Srinagar-Jammu highway.

The checking of hotels and lodges is being done on a regular basis and joint checkpoints have been established at select places in border areas.

In Srinagar and other districts of Kashmir, additional deployment is being witnessed. Police have also started frisking passengers and checking vehicles entering the city at Parimpora, Athwajan, and on the Bypass road.

Checkpoints have been erected at many places in Srinagar and frisking has been intensified.

Earlier on Sunday, frisking, random searches, and checking of identity cards by CRPF personnel and JK police were witnessed at several places in Srinagar. Reports of similar exercises were received from other towns of Kashmir.

Parking areas at the Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu and Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar have been sealed with barbed wire, and barricades erected around them.

The armed forces are carrying out the thorough frisking of vehicles passing around both the stadiums.
