New Delhi: India has summoned the South Korean envoy over the social media post by Hyundai Pakistan on ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’ and conveyed to him that there could be no compromise on the matter as it concerned the country’s territorial integrity.
South Korean Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong spoke to his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar this morning and the Korean side regretted the offense caused to the people and government of India by the social media post.
India’s External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said the South Korean envoy was summoned on Monday and a “strong displeasure” of the government on the social media post was conveyed.
India expected the company to take “appropriate action” to properly address the issue, he stressed. Bagchi said the Indian ambassador in Seoul contacted the Hyundai headquarters and sought an explanation.
Earlier, social media handles of motor company Hyundai and fast food restaurant chain KFC Pakistan uploaded a post on Facebook depicting ‘solidarity’ with Kashmir.
On February 5, Hyundai Pakistan’s social media handles shared posts in solidarity with the “Kashmiri brothers” in their “struggle for freedom”.

The tweet by Hyundai Pakistan reads, “Let us remember the sacrifice of our Kashmiri brothers and stand in support as they continue to struggle for freedom. (sic)” However, the tweet was later removed from the handle.

The caption was shared along with a poster which had a picture of the Dal Lake and the word ‘Kashmir’ written in yellow and covered with barbed wires on top.
The post by KFC Pakistan read: “You never left our thoughts and we hope that the coming years bring peace to you!”. The image has “KASHMIR BELONGS TO THE KASHMIRIS” written in bold red letters.
