India reports 50,407 COVID cases, 804 deaths in last 24 hours

New Delhi: India reported 50,407 fresh COVID cases in the last 24 hours, 13% lower than yesterday. The daily positivity rate dropped marginally to 3.48 per cent, the Health Ministry of India said.

India’s active caseload currently stands at 6,10,443. Active cases are 1.43% of the total COVID infections in the country. After a surge of infections in January led by the new COVID variant Omicron, cases are on a decline in most states in India.

The daily positivity rate dropped marginally to 3.48 per cent. India’s weekly positivity rate is at 5.07 per cent.

India reported 804 deaths in the last 24 hours. This included a backlog of 251 deaths in Kerala. The recovery rate is currently at 97.37%. There were 1,36,962 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

Delhi reported 977 fresh COVID cases on Friday, the lowest since December 29, and 12 more deaths while the positivity rate dropped to 1.73 per cent. With this, New Delhi’s case count increased to 18,49,596 and the death count climbed to 26,047

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Friday that all COVID curbs, barring night curfew, were being lifted across the state due to the fall in cases.
