Mysterious death of woman: Husband arrested on charges of abetment to suicide

Rajouri: Police in Nowshera sub division of Rajouri district have arrested a man on the charges of abetment to suicide in case of mysterious death of his wife.

In an official statement, police said that on May 15, an information was received through reliable sources that one lady namely Seema Devi, wife of Rajesh Kumar of Chowki village of Nowshera was found hanging at her house and her death occurred in suspicious circumstances.

To ascertain the cause of death, police said, an inquest proceeding under section 174 CrPC was initiated vide DDR No 11 dated 15-05-2022 and enquiry was entrusted to PSI Vishal Kumar.

During the course of enquiry, EO proceeded on spot and conducted all legal formalities and also took the dead body in custody. After autopsy, the dead body was handed over to parents of the deceased for last rites as they had doubts on the husband of the deceased, police said.

Later, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SDPO Nowshera Tusif Rishu and SHO Nowshera Rajesh Jasrotia under the supervision of Additional SP Nowshera Amit Verma carried out further investigation and offense under section 306 IPC has been made out against husband of deceased namely Rajesh Kumar, son of Krishan Lal resident of Chowki Nowshera.

On this, the inquest has now been converted in FIR number 87/2022 under section 306 IPC which has been registered in Nowshera Police station and investigation and further legal proceedings are going on.

Police said that accused, who happens to be the husband of deceased, is found involved in charges of abetment to suicide and had created hard circumstances for deceased due to which she took this extreme step.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri Mohammad Aslam said that this is the second such case worked out in Nowshera sub division in the last two months and accused in both the cases happened to be the husbands of victim women.

He said that crime against women is a prime concern for police for which stern action as per laid down norms is being ensured.
