Ramban tunnel collapse: All 10 bodies retrieved, say officials

Ramban: With the retrieving of the tenth body from the debris of an under-construction tunnel that collapsed in Ramban on Thursday, officials said that the rescue operation will be called off as all the bodies have been recovered from the spot.

A senior police officer told Free Press Kashmir that all the bodies have been retrieved from the site. The officer added that a case has been registered in this regard and police have taken up further investigations.

The officer said that a case of negligence has also been registered in this regard. He identified the deceased as Jadav Roy, Gautam Roy, Sudhir Roy, Dipak Roy and Parimal Roy all from West Bengal and Shiva Chouhan from Assam, Nepalese national Navaraj Chaudhary and Kushi Ram Chaudhary and Mohammad Muzaffar Mohammad Ishirat, both residents of Marog District of Ramban.

Earlier on Thursday around 10:15 pm, the audit tunnel of T3 on the highway near Khooni Nallah in Ramban collapsed, trapping around 10 workers of Sarla Company working there.

Meanwhile, 10 persons have sustained injuries after a head-on collision between two vehicles- Sumo and tanker- occurred in Parnote area of Ramsu in Ramban, officials said on Saturday. The injured persons were later shifted to the hospital for treatment.
