Varanasi : Varanasi civil judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar, who had ordered the video survey of Gyanvapi mosque, has been transferred to Bareilly.

He is among the 121 civil judges transferred by the Allahabad High Court on Monday evening. The transferred judges are required to take charge of office by July 4, IANS reported.

The report citing the sources termed the transfer of Diwakar as ‘routine’ and said that there was no link to the sensitive Gyanvapi case that he was hearing.

Diwakar had also claimed to have received death threats during the hearing of the case. His security had been upgraded by the Uttar Pradesh government.

Last month, Varanasi court asked the Uttar Pradesh government to immediately seal the place of Gyanvapi mosque where a purported ‘shivling’ was found.

The court had earlier ordered videographic survey of the Kashi Vishwanath temple-Gyanvapi mosque complex in Varanasi that ended on May 16. The court has also prohibited the entry of any person into the sealed room.

Later, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) held an emergency meeting and said that since the matter is being heard by the court, the Board’s legal team would extend all the necessary assistance to the Muslim side.

The meeting lasted around two hours during which 45 members of the AIMPLB interacted virtually.
