New Delhi: The Government of India’s Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi is likely to replace Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha as the Election Commission is preparing to hold Assembly elections in the Union Territory before the year-end, news agency IANS reported quoting official sources.

“Naqvi finally emerged as the top choice for the Lt Governor’s post in J&K after the growing concern in New Delhi over the recent targeted killings and its eagerness to have a democratically elected government in office sooner than later,” a top source told IANS.

In light of his likelihood to get the Lt Governor’s post, the BJP had decided not to field Naqvi in the recent Rajya Sabha polls.
