Srinagar: Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar today said that after a gap of two consecutive Fridays, prayers were allowed by authorities at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.

It, however, urged the administration to refrain from closing Jamia Masjid under one pretext or the other in the future so that the people who come to this great place of worship from far and wide, seeking the pleasure of Allah, may not be disturbed, the Anjuman Auqaf said in a statement.

The Auqaf said that it along with the faithful, continues to express deep disappointment over the three-year-long house detention of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq whose absence is deeply hurting the people. The pulpit and mihrab of the Jamia Masjid, which used to reverberate with Qaal Allah Wa Qaala Rasool (SAW), continue to remain silent because of Mirwaiz’s absence.

The Auqaf has urged the authorities to ensure immediate and unconditional release of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir in view of Eid-ul-Adha which comprises the important tenets of Islam as Hajj, Qurbani and the arrival of the holy and blessed ten days of Dhul Hijja so that he can fulfill his responsibility as the Mirwaiz, the statement ends.
