Husband, mother-in-law among five arrested for murdering woman in Srinagar, says police

Srinagar: Five members of a family, including a husband and mother-in-law, were arrested today for murdering a woman in Srinagar, police said on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased woman has died of asphyxiation, a police official told Free Press Kashmir, adding, an FIR has been lodged in this regard under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

The post-mortem report was received by the police yesterday and it has come to the fore that the cause of the death is asphyxia- strangulation, the official said.

Meanwhile, police in a tweet, said, “Five (5) accused incl husband &  inlaws arrested in death of a lady in Nundresh colony, Bemina on 27th June.  174 CrPC proceeding were started, Post Mortem report was received yesterday & it came out that the cause of death was asphyxia (strangulation). FIR done under sec 302 of IPC.”

Five suspected persons including three females and two males have been identified as Hafeeza Begum wife of Ghulam Qadir Dar, Sumiyaa wife of Parvaiz Ahmad Dar, Siaqa wife of Yasir Ahmad Dar, Parvaiz Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Qadir Dar and Shahnawaz Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Qadir Dar—all residents of NR Colony Bemina.

The deceased Tasleema was married to Shahnawaz Ahmad Dar of Nund Resh Colony (B) Bemina Srinagar. She had collapsed at her in-laws’s house and was subsequently shifted to JVC hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead on 27 June this year, officials said.

Pertinently, the deceased’s family had staged a protest alleging that she has been murdered. They had demanded the registration of an FIR against the in-laws of Tasleema. Tasleema was a resident of HMT Zainakote Srinagar.
