Two militants arrested in Handwara, arms and ammo recovered: Police

Handwara: Police on Fridays claimed to have arrested two militants and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession in north Kashmir’s Handwara

Police in a statement said that on Aug 4, 2022, joint parties of Police, Army 21 RR, and 92 Bn CRPF had arrested 03 hybrid militants in Handwara and recovered arms and ammunition from them. FIR No 213/2022 u/s 13 UAPA and 7/25 Arms Act had been registered at Police Station Handwara and an investigation was initiated.

The police statement further stated that based on leads developed during the investigation, the role of two more individuals emerged in the conspiracy to carry out militancy acts, namely Aijaz Ahmad Bhat @ Hilal, son of Khazir Mohd Bhat, a resident of Humpora and Naseer Ahmad Mir, a resident of Mohd Ramzan Mir, a resident of Sagipora.

They have been arrested and based on their disclosure, a cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered by a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army 21RR, and 92 Bn CRPF, he said.

The recovery includes 02 Pistols, 04 pistol magazines and 58 pistol rounds, and 06 grenades. Further investigation in the matter is underway, the statement concludes.
