LeT commander among four militants killed in south Kashmir, says police

Anantnag: Three militants including a foreign militant and a Lashkar-e-Taiba commander were killed in a military operation in Khandipora area of Awantipora area of Pulwama district while an unidentified militant was killed in an ongoing operation in Semthan village of Bijbhera in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, police said Tuesday.

Police said that the slain LeT commander identified as Mukhar Bhat along with foreign militant were planning a fidayeen strike on the armed forces camp.

“01 terrorist killed in Bijbehara encounter. Operation going on,” the JK police tweeted. A police official said that the identity and affiliation of the slain was being ascertained.

Earlier, an official had said that a joint team of police, Army and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched a search operation in the area.

He had said that as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated to, triggering the operation.

Police said that another operation broke out in Khandipora village of Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday evening.

Three militants were killed in the Awantipora operation, police said. Police said that one foreign militant and one local militant of Lashkar-e-Taiba Mukhtiyar Bhat were involved in several crimes including the killing of an ASI of CRPF and two RPF personnel, ADG said.
