On Monday, Ukraine’s charge d’affaires was summoned in Tehran over his country’s comments on a drone strike on a military factory in the central Iranian province of Isfahan, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

In Ukraine, which accuses Iran of supplying hundreds of drones to Russia to attack civilian targets in Ukrainian cities far from the front, a senior aide to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy linked the incident directly to the war there, Reuters reported.

“Explosive night in Iran,” Mykhailo Podolyak tweeted on Sunday. “Did warn you.”

The international news agency quoting a US official said that Israel appears to have been behind the attack.

Iran has acknowledged sending drones to Russia but says they were sent before Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine last year.

Moscow denies its forces use Iranian drones in Ukraine, although many have been shot down and recovered there, the report said.

Earlier on Sunday, drones attacked a military plant in Iran’s central city of Isfahan, CNN reported.

“An explosion occurred in one of the military centres affiliated to the Ministry of Defence,” the deputy head of security for Isfahan Governorate Mohammad Reza Jan-Nesari told the semi-official Fars News Agency, according to CNN.

Though the explosion left some damage, there weren’t any casualties, it said.

Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) later said the explosion had been caused by “small drones”.

“There was an unsuccessful attack by small drones against a defence ministry industrial complex,” IRNA said in a post on Twitter, citing the country’s defence ministry, CNN reported.

“The air defence system of the complex was able to destroy two drones. Fortunately, this unsuccessful attack killed no one and only minor damage was sustained to the roof of the complex,” the agency said.
