No academic activities at Srinagar’s Islamia College today

Srinagar: Islamia College of Science and Commerce Hawal, Srinagar district of central Kashmir, have suspended all academic activities for the day.

Islamia College of Science and Commerce Hawal has however informed the students that backlog examinations of 3rd semester shall be conducted as per schedule. The normal activities at the institute will resume on December 1.

Today, the National Institute of Technology, Hazratbal Srinagar, also instructed all students to vacate hostels with immediate effect.

The instructions, the authorities said, were being made in pursuance of declaration of winter vacations.

“Pursuant to declaration of Winter Vacation for students w.e.f 30.11.2023 vide Order No. 60 of 2023 issued under endorsement number NITS/R/23/600 dated 30.11.2023 all hostel boarders (Boys and Girls) are instructed to vacate the hostels with immediate effect”, reads a circular, as per GNS.

Pertinently, a day ago, Srinagar police registered a case against a non-local student of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar for sharing a video on social media which allegedly hurt religious sentiments of the local students.

The case was registered against him under the IPC for promoting religious enmity between communities.

Protests by local Kashmiri Muslim students were witnessed at many places in the Valley after the controversial video shared by the student went viral.
