Srinagar: On Friday, hundreds participated in the funeral prayers of a Jammu and Kashmir police inspector who lost his life more than a month after being attacked in Eidgah area of Srinagar.
The police officer, Masroor Ahmad Wani, was playing cricket with local boys when the attack took place on October 29. After being swiftly taken to a nearby hospital, he was later transferred to other hospitals of the Valley and then AIIMS New Delhi for advanced treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries.
An eyewitness told Free Press Kashmir that a large gathering of mourners assembled at Dangerpora Chowk, Eidgah, for the funeral procession. Prior to this, a wreath-laying ceremony took place at District Police Lines (DPL) Srinagar in honour of the slain officer.
Earlier, the Director General of Police, RR Swain condoled the death of the slain. “I extend my heartfelt condolences on the tragic loss of Police Inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani,” the DGP said.
He added, “Wani’s sacrifice reminds us of the immense challenges our personnel encounter daily, even in moments of leisure. It is a grim reminder of the perils faced by our brave personnel while safeguarding the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
