Kashmir students back to school after 95-day winter break
Srinagar: Donning uniforms, school students of the Kashmir valley returned to educational institutions on Monday after a winter break of over two months.
Barring a few places in the frontier district of Kupwara, schools across the Kashmir valley welcomed the students with a celebration day.
“Winter vacations are always a good experience, but students can grasp the lectures more properly in offline classes,” Sabreen, a school student, said.
She said staying at home continuously for nearly three months has made her lazy. “However, the resumption of physical academic activities has brought joy among the students.”
Meanwhile, another student, Nadeem Iqbal, said that he was impatiently waiting for schools to reopen so that he could meet his friends, attend classes, and appear in exams.
Pertinently, the administration of Jammu and Kashmir in December 2023 had ordered the closure of schools in a phased manner in the Kashmir division from November 28, 2023, to February 29, 2024.
For primary-level classes up to 8th standard, the vacations were announced from November 28 to February 29, 2024, and from 9th standard onwards up to 12th standard, the vacations were announced from December 11 to February 29, 2024, respectively.
DSEK had ordered that the teaching staff report back to their respective schools on February 21, 2024, so that they remain available for making arrangements regarding the preparation of ensuing examinations.
On February 29, the administration said that schools in the Kashmir division shall commence classwork from March 4 instead of March 1 in view of inclement weather. (KNO).
