‘Finally showing my hidden talent’: Malala Yousafzai makes acting debut in British show

Malala Yousafzai is set to make her screen debut with a cameo in the second season of the British series “We Are Lady Parts.”

The Nobel Peace Prize laureate’s first look from the show, which features her wearing a cowboy hat while riding a horse, has garnered attention on social media.

Season 2 of Nida Manzoor’s series, featuring Malala, will premiere on Thursday on the NBCUniversal streaming service in the US and Channel 4 in the UK.

In an exclusive interview with British Vogue, Malala expressed her surprise at being part of a TV show. She recounted how she became involved with “We Are Lady Parts,” a series about an all-female Muslim punk band determined to achieve success. Malala explained, “I attended the premiere of Polite Society and heard Nida speak there. That film was a masterpiece that shattered stereotypes.”

Malala praised Nida for creating both “Polite Society” and “We Are Lady Parts,” emphasising their importance and broad appeal.

She noted, “These works resonate with everyone, not just brown people, as they address universal themes like friendship, family dynamics, and pursuing one’s passions. This inspired me to enter the entertainment world to help young people and women reflect their perspectives and connect through stories. Although I’ve always been behind the scenes, I never expected to be in a show. Now, I’m revealing my hidden talent.”
