BJP’s poor performance in LS polls due to hate politics, fake promises: Owaisi

Hyderabad: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi stated on Tuesday that the BJP’s underwhelming performance in the Lok Sabha polls was due to its decade-long hate politics and fake promises.

Owaisi, who secured his fifth consecutive win in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency, mentioned he would consider supporting the formation of a new government if Narendra Modi does not become the prime minister for a third term.

“We have publicly declared our intention to stop BJP,” he told reporters.

Owaisi expressed doubt that the BJP would reach the 272-seat majority on its own, as vote counting continued. According to the latest Election Commission data, the BJP is winning 240 seats.

He argued that the public is tired of the BJP’s divisive politics, with youth frustrated by unemployment and farmers dissatisfied. Constitution enthusiasts viewed Modi’s goal of winning over 400 seats as a threat to the Constitution, he asserted.

“The verdict is clear. If Modi forms the government now, he will need the support of allies, which will be interesting to see,” Owaisi said, urging Modi to reflect on the results.

Owaisi congratulated Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Congress’s victory in eight of the state’s 17 seats. He criticized the BRS for openly supporting the BJP in some constituencies, calling it a flawed political strategy.

When asked about aligning with the INDIA bloc, he clarified that his party is not part of the alliance but would support a non-BJP, non-NDA candidate for prime minister if such a situation arises. He thanked voters, including women, youth, and seniors, for his victory over BJP’s K Madhavi Latha by a margin of over 3.38 lakh votes.
