NEET-UG paper leak: After two teachers, CBI arrests journalist in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh

Jharkhand: A day after apprehending the principal and vice-principal of Oasis School in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh over an alleged leak of this year’s National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a journalist from Hazaribagh for allegedly assisting the two accused.

According to sources cited in the report published by Indian Express, Mohd Jamaludin, is employed by a reputed Hindi daily. His arrest by the CBI was based on “technical evidence” gathered against him.

Imtiaz Alam, designated NEET-UG coordinator for the Hazaribagh area by the National Testing Agency (NTA), and Dr. Ehsanul Haque, vice-principal of Oasis School, were taken into custody by the CBI on Friday. Investigators believe the alleged leak occurred at Oasis School in Jharkhand.

The CBI, tasked by the education ministry on June 22 with conducting a thorough investigation into the discrepancies in this year’s NEET (UG), has detained two residents of Patna accused of arranging accommodations for NEET-UG candidates on May 4. This action was taken the day before the exam, allegedly to facilitate memorization of the question paper. A total of 13 individuals, including four examinees, have been implicated in the case, with additional arrests made subsequently.

Meanwhile, the CBI conducted investigations at seven locations in Gujarat, taking over from the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) in Bihar, according to authorities speaking to news agency PTI on Saturday.

The operations spanned four districts— Anand, Kheda, Ahmedabad, and Godhra— commencing in the morning at the suspects’ premises.
