Meerut: Three Hindu Sadhus were physically assaulted and held hostage by Hindutva men in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district, allegedly on suspicion of being Muslims.

Identified as Sunil Kumar, Gaurav Kumar, and Gopinath from Jagadhri, Haryana, they belong to the Hindu Nath community and were begging in Meerut. They were attacked in Prahlad Nagar on suspicion of child kidnapping, a claim later proven baseless by police investigation.

Meerut Police initially denied the attack but later confirmed the incident, stating the Sadhus were residents of Yamunanagar, Haryana, and released after verification. However, a viral video showing the assault prompted an investigation. Despite this, no action was taken against the assailants.

Amidst the controversy, various TV channels and users on social media falsely claim that Sadhus were Muslim men disguised as Hindus, perpetuating misinformation despite police clarification.
