Sarma said his government has taken steps to reduce population growth among the Muslim community
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Friday that the Muslim population in his state is increasing by approximately 30 percent every decade, projecting them to become the majority by 2041.
Speaking at a press briefing, Sarma cited “statistical sampling” indicating that Muslims now constitute 40 percent of Assam’s population.
“By 2041, Assam is expected to have a Muslim-majority population. This is a reality that cannot be thwarted,” he emphasised.
Sarma also mentioned that the Hindu community’s population is growing by about 16 percent every 10 years.
The chief minister highlighted measures taken by his government to curb population growth among Muslims.
“The Congress party plays a crucial role in controlling the population growth of Muslims… If Rahul Gandhi becomes the advocate for population control, the community is likely to respond positively,” he remarked.
