Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has appointed eight Superintendents of Police (SP) to oversee operations in six districts of the Jammu region, PTI reported.
This move, announced on Friday, aims to strengthen anti-militancy measures in response to a recent surge in militant activities and the upcoming assembly polls in the Union Territory.
According to an order issued by Principal Secretary Home Department Chandrakar Bharti, two SPs have been assigned to each of the Kathua and Rajouri districts, while Kishtwar, Udhampur, Reasi, and Poonch districts will each have one SP.
These officers will manage anti-militancy operations within their designated sub-divisional areas, enhancing control and security.
Nisar Ahmed will oversee operations in the Kandi and border areas of Kathua, while Aumer Iqbal will cover Upper Kathua, including Billawar, Bani, Basholi, and Malhar. In Rajouri, Charanjeet Singh will be responsible for Thanamandi, Darhal, Rajouri, and Manjakote areas, and Wajahat Hussain will manage Bhudal and Kandi belts.
Other appointments include Ifroz Ahmed for Kishtwar, Mashkoor Ahmed for Arnas, Gulabgarh, Mahore, Chasana, and Pasana areas of Reasi, Prithpal Singh for Basangarh, Dudu, and Latti areas of Udhampur, and Sachin Gupta for Surankote and Bufliaz areas of Poonch. All these SPs have been reassigned from their previous roles as deputy commandants in the armed police, the news agency report said.
This strategic move follows 18 militancy-related incidents reported in the Jammu region since June 9.
