Over 100 institutions across Canada, primarily associated with the Jewish community, received bomb threats via email on Wednesday, international media reported.
The wording of these emails was reported to be “seemingly identical” to those sent to various hospitals and malls in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) of India the previous day, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Canadian media outlets reported that approximately 125 institutions, including synagogues and hospitals, were targeted. The emails were sent early in the morning, around 5 a.m. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) issued a statement confirming their awareness of the threats and their collaboration with local law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of the targeted locations.

The RCMP’s Federal Policing National Security Program is leading the investigation into the source of these threats. According to RCMP Sergeant Charles Poirier, their Integrated National Security Enforcement Team in Montreal is coordinating efforts and has reached out to international partners, including those in India, to determine if suspects have been identified and whether similar emails were sent to other locations.

The CBC News outlet, which reviewed a copy of one of the emails, noted that the message’s wording was strikingly similar to the threats directed at hospitals and malls in India’s NCR the day before. The email reportedly stated, “We have placed many explosives in your building. They are placed in black backpacks. The bombs are set to go off in a few hours. You will all end up in a pool of blood, none of you deserve to keep living. Everyone inside the building will lose their lives.”

These threats led to heightened security measures in major Canadian cities, including Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, Hamilton, and Ottawa, where a hospital was among the targeted locations.
