JK records over 41% voter turnout by 1pm in Ist phase of assembly polls
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded a voter turnout of over 41% by 1 pm on Wednesday during the first phase of assembly elections, officials said. Long queues were seen outside polling stations across the region.
The assembly polls, being held after a 10-year gap, are taking place in three phases. The first phase began today, with the second scheduled for September 25, and the final phase on October 1. The vote counting will occur on October 8.
Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha appealed voters to turn out in record numbers for first phase of assembly polls.
In a post on X, office of LG J&K, urged youth, women and first-time votes to vote in large numbers.
“J&K Assembly elections commence today. I call upon all the voters whose assembly constituencies are voting in the first phase today to turn out in record numbers & exercise their democratic rights. I especially urge youth, women and first-time voters to vote in large numbers,” he posted.
