Jammu: The BJP secured 29 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections on Tuesday. However, the party’s state president, Ravinder Raina, lost his Nowshera seat in Rajouri district.
Raina, who garnered 27,250 votes, was defeated by National Conference candidate Surinder Choudhary by a margin of 7,819 votes, according to Election Commission data. Choudhary received 35,069 votes.
“I have accepted the people’s verdict and thank them for their support,” Raina told PTI.
He expressed gratitude to the voters for backing the BJP, highlighting the party’s achievement of winning 29 seats and securing the highest vote share in Jammu and Kashmir.
While acknowledging the loss in Nowshera, Raina emphasised the party’s overall success in the elections.
Before the vote count began, Raina offered prayers at the historic Bawe Kali Mata temple. He first entered the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly as an MLA from Nowshera at 37 and became the BJP’s state president at 41 after leading the party’s youth wing at 34.
This election marks the BJP’s first-time victory with 29 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly.
