Congress likely to receive cabinet berth, deputy speaker post
Srinagar: Omar Abdullah is expected to take the position of Chief Minister without a deputy CM in the newly-formed Jammu and Kashmir government, reports said quoting reliable sources.
The Congress party may be offered one Cabinet berth, with contenders including MLA Dooru GA Mir, who secured over 44,000 votes, and JKPCC chief and MLA Central Shalteng Tariq Hamid Karra. Additionally, Congress may be given the Deputy Speaker role.
The National Conference (NC) is expected to allocate Cabinet posts to its two Hindu MLAs from Jammu, Surender Kumar Choudhary (Nowshera) and Arjun Kumar Singh (Ramban), along with one Muslim MLA from Jammu. The remaining five ministerial positions are likely to be chosen from NC’s Kashmir MLAs.
Among the likely candidates for these positions are senior party leaders Abdul Rahim Rather, Sakeena Masood Itoo, Hasnain Masoodi, Tanvir Sadiq, Salman Sagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah, Dr. Sajad Shafi, Qaisar Jamshed Lone, Mir Saifullah, Nazir Gurezi, and Mian Mehar Ali.
The final cabinet composition is expected to be announced soon as negotiations between the NC and Congress conclude.
