Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir cabinet, under the leadership of Omar Abdullah, has endorsed transaction of business rules (TBR) for the Union Territory. These rules have been forwarded to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for his approval.

Since Abdullah assumed office as CM on October 16, 2024, the UT has been operating without TBR. This absence, currently under the jurisdiction of both Raj Bhavan and the chief minister’s office, has posed challenges for the secretariat and other government entities, causing uncertainty in decision-making and prioritisation.

Following a meeting on Wednesday night, the cabinet approved the business rules formulated by a high-level committee over the past few months. Abdullah emphasised the necessity of establishing these rules for clarity until statehood is restored.

He highlighted the importance of smooth operation without confusion, viewing these rules as a temporary measure. In February, Abdullah had informed Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the readiness of these rules, which are now awaiting approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs before being publicly disclosed.
