Srinagar: National Conference (NC) MLA Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri on Thursday voiced concern over the prolonged struggles of daily wagers and contractual workers across multiple sectors in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Veeri highlighted the plight of daily wagers, CPWs, CLs, DRWs, HDF workers, and casual labourers in departments such as Power Development (PDD), Forest, Health, Rural Development (RDD), Wildlife, Fisheries, Agriculture, Horticulture, and Irrigation. He also emphasized the hardships faced by CIC operators and Special Police Officers (SPOs), many of whom have been waiting for job regularisation for the past 15 to 20 years.
“These workers have been toiling for decades without job security, fair wages, or timely payments. It is imperative for the government to address their grievances and provide them with justice,” Veeri said.
His remarks come amid growing unrest among contractual employees who have repeatedly demanded regularisation and better working conditions.
“I raised the issue of daily wagers, CPWs, CLs, DRWs, HDF workers, PDD and Forest casual laborers, Health, RDD, CIC operators, Wildlife casual laborers, Fisheries, Agriculture, Horticulture, and Irrigation casual laborers, as well as SPOs, who are struggling from 15 to 20 years,” Dr Veeri said.
