Srinagar: Reacting sharply to former RAW chief A.S. Dulat’s recent claims in his book regarding Dr Farooq Abdullah, senior Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) leader and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, has termed them as “pure fiction and utterly baseless”.

“Such claims are not only misleading but seem to be aimed at creating unnecessary controversy around Dr. Abdullah, who has always been clear in his stand and committed to the aspirations of the people of J&K,” Sadiq told reporters on Tuesday.

Dulat, in his new book, has made assertions about the political conduct and behind-the-scenes role of Dr. Farooq Abdullah during key moments in Kashmir’s history — claims that have drawn strong reactions from several regional political leaders. Daulat said Dr Farooq was backing abrogation of Article 370.

Sadiq said that Daulat’s statements are contradictory and he wants to stay relevant.

Sadiq, who is also the party’s spokesperson, downplayed the ongoing discord within JKNC following critical remarks by MP Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi.

“We acknowledge there are differences, but they will be addressed within the party. Ruhullah sahib is a respected voice and discussions are underway. Right now, there are far more pressing issues facing the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

The Zadibal legislator reaffirmed the party’s commitment to unity and public welfare, saying that attempts to drive a wedge within JKNC will not succeed.

“Our focus remains on addressing governance, unemployment, and the uncertain political climate in the Valley,” he said.
