Srinagar: Days after shutting them, India on Thursday opened two gates of the Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project Dam on the Chenab River in Ramban district. The move comes amid continuous rainfall in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a fresh weather forecast predicting generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms across many parts of the Jammu division and at a few locations in the Kashmir division.
May 8–11: Expect partly to generally cloudy weather with spells of light to moderate rain, thunder showers, and gusty winds at scattered to fairly widespread places.
May 12: A brief spell of light rain or thunder shower is likely at isolated locations.
May 13–17: Weather is expected to remain generally dry across the region.
Authorities have urged residents and tourists to follow administrative and traffic advisories strictly.
Boating and Shikara rides in Dal Lake, Wular Lake, and other water bodies should be avoided during inclement weather and gusty winds.
The department has also warned of possible landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas due to intense showers. A significant rise in day temperatures is expected from May 13 onwards, especially in the Jammu division.
