Two Israeli embassy staff shot dead near Jewish Museum in Washington DC

Washington DC police.

Two Israeli Embassy staff members were fatally shot on Wednesday evening near the Jewish Museum in Washington, DC, in what Israeli officials have denounced as a “heinous act of anti-Semitic terrorism.”

Authorities have arrested 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez from Chicago, who reportedly shouted “Free, free Palestine” while being detained.

The incident happened close to the FBI’s Washington Field Office in Northwest DC. US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the fatalities on X, noting that an active investigation is underway with cooperation between federal and local agencies to uncover all the details.

“Two Israeli Embassy staff lost their lives in a senseless act of violence near the Jewish Museum tonight. We are fully investigating and will provide updates as we learn more. Please keep the victims’ families in your prayers. Justice will be served,” Noem posted.

The victims’ names have not yet been released, but local sources report they were connected to Israel’s diplomatic mission. The Israeli Embassy confirmed the incident, stating the ambassador was not at the scene, but did not offer further comment.

Reacting on Truth Social, US President Donald Trump strongly condemned the killings, attributing them to antisemitism. “These tragic murders in DC must stop—now! Hatred and extremism have no place in America. My deepest sympathies go out to the victims’ families. It’s heartbreaking that such violence can still occur. God bless everyone.”

Israeli President Isaac Herzog also denounced the shooting, calling it a “vile act of hatred,” and expressed support for Jewish communities in the US. “Our hearts go out to the victims’ families. Terror and hate will never defeat us,” he said.
