Srinagar: The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has forecast widespread rain and thunderstorms across Jammu and Kashmir on May 30 and 31, with a possibility of heavy downpours and gusty winds at several places. The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy, with light to moderate rainfall likely in most parts of the region.
The department has warned of moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and strong winds at scattered locations, raising concerns over potential landslides or mudslides in vulnerable areas. Intense showers may also trigger flash floods in some isolated spots.
In view of the forecast, the Met Centre has advised residents to exercise caution and stay away from loose structures, electric poles, cables, and old trees during the period of intense weather activity.
Looking ahead, the weather is likely to ease over the weekend. Brief spells of light rain or thundershowers may occur at isolated places on June 1 and 2.
From June 4 to 6, the region is expected to witness mostly dry conditions, with only a chance of brief afternoon showers in a few isolated areas.
Authorities and residents, particularly those living in hilly or flood-prone regions, have been urged to stay alert and follow safety precautions.
