Qazigund: Amid a multi-tier security cover, the first batch of Amarnathji Yatra pilgrims was warmly received by locals as they entered the Kashmir valley through the Navyug Tunnel on Tuesday morning.
Civil society members, traders, and residents from Kulgam and Anantnag gathered in large numbers to welcome the yatris with traditional hospitality — a gesture underlining Kashmir’s age-old culture of warmth and brotherhood.

According to officials, the Baltal axis convoy departed from Jammu at 5:20 am, followed by the Pahalgam-bound convoy at 6:04 am. A total of 5,485 pilgrims are part of this batch, including 2,347 taking the Baltal route and 3,138 via Pahalgam.
Among the yatris, 4,395 are males, 1,043 females, 31 children, and 16 sadhus. The convoy comprises 299 vehicles — 162 on the Baltal route and 137 on the Pahalgam route — including 113 buses (48 via Baltal and 65 via Pahalgam), 42 medium motor vehicles, and 144 light motor vehicles.
BJP leader Ravinder Raina, who was also present, said the involvement of locals in facilitating the yatra reflects the true spirit of Kashmir. “I’ve seen youth actively welcoming the yatris. This is the real face of Kashmir — one of love, service, and harmony,” he said.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police, Jammu and Kahsmir, Nalin Prabhat also visited the Nayoga Tunnel in Qazigund and interacted with police officers deployed for the Amarnath Yatra.
