Four slip into canal, 3 rescued; Op underway to trace another

Four fell into canal in Uri; rescue op underway.

Uri: An outing turned tragic on Sunday after four persons slipped into a canal of the Lower Jhelum Hydroelectric Project (LJHP) in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, resulting in two deaths while search is on for the remaining missing person.

The mishap occurred when the family was near the canal and four of them accidentally fell into the water. One 13-year-old boy was rescued immediately, while the body of another minor was recovered later that evening.

On Monday morning, rescue teams recovered the body of  Ahmad Bin Khalid, son of Khalid Mehraj Shah, a resident of Hyderpora, Srinagar, officials told GNS.

His body was retrieved by teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local police, and civilians who have been engaged in an intensive search since the incident.

Efforts are continuing to trace the fourth member, identified as Mehnaz Rashid Shah, son of Abdul Rashid Shah of Khanyar, Srinagar, who remains missing.
