CM Sahab tasted what common Kashmiris face evey day: Mirwaiz on Omar’s martyrs’ graveyard visit

Omar Abdullah posted that he had to scale a wall and walk from Nowhatta Chowk to reach the Martyrs’ Graveyard.

Srinagar: Reacting to the curbs faced by JK Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during his visit to the Martyrs’ Graveyard in Srinagar, Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said on Monday that “power teaches little, but powerlessness teaches more.”

In a statement posted on X, Mirwaiz said Omar Abdullah experienced the same “authoritarian high-handedness and helplessness” that common Kashmiris face every day.

“Today the CM sahab tasted the bitter medicine of authoritarian high-handedness and subsequent helplessness that common Kashmiris face every day in different forms, as all agency and space is denied to them,” he said.

Mirwaiz hoped the experience would shift Omar’s focus to “what is the first priority of every people — upholding their dignity and fundamental rights — and work sincerely towards its restoration.”

The remarks came after Omar Abdullah said he was stopped from visiting the Martyrs’ Graveyard on July 13 and had to scale a wall to reach the site a day later, facing physical obstruction by security forces.
