Six dead, dozens injured in stampede at Haridwar’s Mansa Devi temple

Haridwar, Uttarakhand: Injured being shifted to hospital as stampede-like situation occurs at Mansa Devi temple

Haridwar: A stampede at the Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar on Sunday morning claimed six lives and left over two dozen people injured, according to police.

Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Singh Dobal informed PTI Videos that 35 people were taken to the hospital, where six were declared dead.

The chaos reportedly began after a rumour spread about an electric current near the base of the temple steps, triggering panic among devotees and resulting in the stampede.

Officials said the incident occurred around 9:30 am. Emergency responders, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and fire services, were immediately deployed to the scene.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the incident, stating that he is closely monitoring the situation.

“Deeply saddened to hear about the stampede on the way to Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar. SDRF, local police, and rescue teams are at the site carrying out relief operations,” Dhami wrote on Facebook.

He added that he is in constant communication with the local administration and prayed for the well-being of all devotees.
