‘Stop spreading fake news against Tehran’: Iran Embassy in New Delhi to Indian media organisations

New Delhi: The Iranian Embassy in New Delhi on Monday called on certain media outlets to stop circulating “fake and fabricated news” and to avoid publishing “sensationalist and inaccurate content” about Iran.

In a post on X, the Embassy urged the Indian media to maintain public trust and professional credibility by steering clear of misinformation.

The statement noted that some Indian news organisations — including prominent ones — have recently released unfounded reports that it said were disrespectful toward Iran and its leadership.

“This kind of irresponsible journalism not only weakens public confidence but also tarnishes the professional image of these media organisations among their audience,” the Embassy said.

While affirming its respect for freedom of expression and the public’s right to information, the Embassy urged Indian media to rely on trustworthy, impartial sources when reporting on Iran.

It also highlighted that the Supreme Leader of Iran, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, had led the country’s military operations during the recent 12-day conflict with what it described as the “Zionist regime,” asserting that Iran had inflicted a significant defeat through a decisive act of self-defence.

The Embassy concluded by expressing hope that Indian media would maintain journalistic integrity, avoid becoming tools of foreign propaganda, and help preserve the long-standing friendship and mutual respect between the two ancient civilisations.
