Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) on Sunday hit out at PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, stating that her father, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed — who served as India’s Home Minister — was in power when several massacres took place in Kashmir, including the Gawkadal massacre, Handwara massacre, Sopore massacre, and Bijbehara massacre.

“What will she tell people about those massacres? Before pointing fingers at others, she should look at her own past,” said JKNC spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar.

His remarks came in response to Mehbooba Mufti’s criticism of the government during her recent address in Jammu. Dar accused her of double standards and alleged that she was trying to spark controversy for political mileage.

“If shamelessness had a face, it would be Mehbooba Mufti,” Dar said. “When she was in power, she defended security forces. She once said that those who had gone out to pelt stones on forces were not out to fetch toffees and milk. But now, she is going door to door, crying over killings and pretending to care.”

He also referred to her visit to the home of a Jammu youth who was killed in a recent police action. “The government has already ordered an inquiry. Why is she going there now? Just to stir trouble,” he alleged.

Dar further said that the people have already rejected Mehbooba Mufti and her party, as seen in the 2024 Lok Sabha election results. “Instead of targeting Omar Abdullah, she should accept that her time is over. The people have given their verdict,” he added.
