New Delhi: Seven police personnel have been suspended after failing to stop a Delhi Police Special Cell team that managed to enter the Red Fort with a dummy bomb during a mock drill, officials said.
The drill was part of a series of security checks being held across the national capital in preparation for Independence Day. Following the breach, authorities have decided to reassess the entire security framework and introduce a revised, more robust plan, senior officials added. The suspended officers will also face a departmental inquiry.
The mock drill that exposed the security gap is one of several planned ahead of the 79th Independence Day of India celebrations.
Security arrangements have already been intensified, including a two-tier security ring led by officers of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) rank. Snipers, SWAT teams, drones, and 700 AI-powered CCTV cameras with facial recognition capabilities have also been deployed.
As per The Indian Express, an Under Vehicle Surveillance System has also been added to the security setup. Officials said large-scale emergency simulations, hotel inspections, and increased patrolling are already underway as part of the preparedness efforts.
