Srinagar: Authorities on Sunday issued a weather advisory, warning of heavy rainfall across several districts of Jammu and Kashmir over the next 56 hours, with the possibility of cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides.

The Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Disaster Management Authority (JKUTDMA) said heavy rain is most likely in Anantnag, Kulgam, parts of central and north Kashmir, Doda, Jammu, Kathua, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Reasi, Samba and Udhampur.

People have been advised to remain alert, take precautions, and avoid rivers, streams and landslide-prone areas. In case of emergency, residents can dial 112.

The advisory comes in the backdrop of back-to-back weather-related disasters in the Union Territory.

On August 14, a cloudburst in Kishtwar triggered flash floods in Chisoti village during the annual Machail Mata pilgrimage, killing more than 60 people, injuring over 100, and leaving at least 82 still missing.

Just days later, on the night of August 17, another cloudburst struck Kathua, killing at least four people and injuring several others in Janglote village. The disaster also damaged the Srinagar-Jammu highway, a railway track and a police station.

Authorities fear that continued heavy rainfall could worsen the situation, especially with rivers such as the Ujh flowing close to the danger mark.
