Srinagar: The district administrations of Srinagar and Bandipora on Monday issued advisories following forecasts of heavy rain, thundershowers, cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides in parts of Jammu and Kashmir from August 17 to 19.
Residents, particularly in low-lying areas, slopes, and near water bodies such as the Jhelum river, Wular Lake, and irrigation canals, have been advised to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
Tourists, shikara operators, sand miners, and fishermen have been specifically warned against attempting river crossings or venturing near water bodies without assessing risks. Parents were also urged to keep children away from swollen streams and rivers.
Authorities have instructed line departments to remain fully prepared. PWD and Roadways have been asked to keep machinery ready for road clearance, IFC to monitor water levels, PHE to ensure uninterrupted water supply, and KPDCL to deploy rapid response teams.
The health department, police, SDRF, and Fire and Emergency Services have been tasked to stay alert for rescue, evacuation, and medical assistance. Municipal bodies and RDD have been directed to clear drains and prevent waterlogging, while FCSCA will ensure ration availability, especially in remote areas. Tehsildars and BDOs are coordinating with local PRIs for quick response during emergencies.
