Kullu landslide: Himachal Govt assures support for return of Kashmiri labourers’ bodies

Rescue teams clear debris at the Kullu–Manali landslide site amid heavy rains.

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association on Thursday said it has urged the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office to facilitate the return of the mortal remains of seven Kashmiri labourers who died in a landslide in the Kullu–Manali area.

Chief Minister’s Advisor and Special Secretary Rajiv Kumar told the Association that rescue operations were underway despite heavy rains, and one body had so far been recovered, JKSA said.

He added that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was personally monitoring the situation and remained in constant touch with the concerned District Magistrate and SSP.

Teams from the NDRF, ITBP, SSB, Home Guards, Fire Department, along with the SP Kullu, are at the spot continuing search operations.

Rajiv Kumar assured that the state government would extend full support in transporting the bodies to Kashmir, in coordination with the local administration.

“The JKSA urged the Chief Minister’s Office to expedite the efforts so that the bereaved families in Kashmir can perform the last rites of their loved ones without further delay,” said Mir Zubair, media coordinator of the association.
