Srinagar: The Railway Minister of India on Thursday announced that Railways will begin a “daily parcel train service” from Kashmir Valley to Delhi for transporting apples, starting September 13.
In a post on X, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, said two parcel vans carrying apples from Budgam to Delhi had already been dispatched today.
Calling it a big relief for fruit growers in the Valley, the minister said the service would now operate on a daily basis.
“With the Jammu-Srinagar rail line functional, connectivity in Kashmir Valley has improved. Railways is launching a daily, time-tabled parcel train from Budgam in Kashmir to Adarsh Nagar station in Delhi from September 13, 2025,” he wrote.
He also confirmed that the loading of two parcel vans carrying apples from Budgam to Delhi began today.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha thanked Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and the Railway Minister, saying the service would ease transportation worries for farmers.
“The daily parcel train from Budgam to New Delhi will bring huge relief to apple growers. My deepest gratitude to PM Narendra Modi Ji and Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw,” the LG posted on X.
