Shopian: The police in Shopian have detained a ‘notorious thief and molester’ under the provisions of the Public Safety Act (PSA) and shifted him to Udhampur jail following the issuance of detention orders by the competent authority.
The accused Waseem Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Aziz Wani, a resident of Ganowpora, is a repeat offender, involved in eight FIRs registered across various police stations. His criminal history includes theft, house trespass, and serious offences against women, posing a persistent threat to public peace and community safety.
The Shopian police and Keegam police prepared and executed the PSA warrant against the accused. A comprehensive dossier was compiled, detailing his repeated involvement in criminal activities.
The police have reaffirmed that they will remain steadfast in their commitment to maintaining public order and ensuring the safety and dignity of all citizens.
The department will continue to take firm and lawful action against habitual offenders and all those who pose a threat to peace and stability in the district.
